It's versus its on webpage

Postby A. A. Fergusson on Wed Apr 29, 2009 8:02 pm

Since 1750, Harrison College has been noted for high academic standards. It therefore hurts our image when we publish things with glaring grammatical, syntactical, spelling or other errors. In the paragraph below taken from the new website, the possessive pronoun 'its' should replace the abbreviated form of "it is' or 'it's'.

Dear Harrisonian,
We are pleased to inform you that the Old Harrisonian Society has begun the process of review of it's Constitution and we want to hear what you have to say!

Incidentally this particular mistake has become endemic in the USA but no HC graduate worthy of that designation should make it.

I agree- and yet at the same time, I beg to differ. :D

I agree with the part that we are noted for our High Standards; but I am reserved with respect to the contention that our image is hurt by such a misuse of the English language.

For indeed humans make mistakes- and those recorded points in time when a Harrisonian so 'obliges' to make a mistake, he/she merely confirms to the world that we too are a member of the human race. ;)

Finally, I always thought that Harrison College was founded in 1733- so in the face of such a historical discrepancy, there we have more 'voluntary proof' that Harrisonians are humans too!

P.S: I really hope that this board gets some serious life breathed into it- it would be a pity to see such efforts of the webmaster and others who contributed in making this magnificient and aesthetically pleasing website, go to waste :(
